Earlier in the day, a quick detour into a Visitor Center lead to a recommendation for the best camp site in the state. Indian Creek Recreational Area was an option.  After leaving Camp Claiborne, the rain was heavy and with every passing truck the fun of being on the road faded with the lost visibility of the road ahead.  I turned my  life over to Google Maps to lead me to a place of rest and I was rewarded with a short 8 mile trip.

Winter Camping, even in intense rain has advantages.  That one or two camps sites, the one that the world envy’s in the summer months and never available to mere Tortugas are available and waiting for you on a cold wet winter day.  As the Tortuga moved through this beautiful park that was 80 percent empty the rangers at the front gates recommend spot #95. On the edge of the lake, under the pines.  A flock of ducks greeted the Tortuga with a spectacular take off and it was time to enjoy this site and get some rest, for tomorrow, in the rain it was time to out of the passing front and travel to Martin Dies State Park.h
