Camp Claiborne

Not much to see, unless you know what went on here in history.. The Tortuga has read just enough history to be curious.  Located just north of Forest Hill, Louisiana on Highway 165 the largest war game in American History was conducted to get the Army ready to win the next war.  The Louisiana Maneuvers conducted here in 1941. An entire city now hidden by pine trees, the only thing left are the concrete roads that make a perfect matrix across the region.  In just over 5 years over a half million men pasted through the gates, and Camp Claiborne gave birth to the celebrated 82ndand 101stairborne divisions and the training needed to win WWII.  The forestry serve took possession and nature has reclaimed the camp.  Sober moment to stand in the rain and imagen those that trained here and gave their lives for the call to duty. With a pray for the fallen it was time to find a place to hide from the rain for the rest of the night.
