Cabin Tilt Trip

9 July 2019

After getting to Las Vegas it was time to stretch the legs.  The plan was to drive to Farmington N.M. to visit family but the plans changed when I pulled off to the side of the road. As I walked around the truck the cabin, Big White Box in the back had more tilt in it than the truck. The truck was designed so the cabin and the truck frame would swivel independently, to give great cross country capabilities but the amount tilt from the box and the truck was unnerving.

As with all new problems it was global.. The wold would soon end if I didn’t get a handle on the situation. Could I go on, is it safe, is the Big Tortuga in the sky trying to tell me something?

What to do?

For those that are fans of Unimogs or big German trucks in general the name Rob Pickering is legendary. Only about 200 miles from Las Vegas in the little town of La Junta, Colorado, there is a company called Terry Lee enterprises, that Rob owns. Parts, repairs modifications on Over-landing vehicles are the primary menu items every day. To the over landing community, La Junta is a standard stopping point to see Rob when in the western hemisphere.

The Tortuga was off.

For those that have never been in the south west corner of Colorado, surprise, surprise. No Colorado High here is is Colorado flat.. In fact this was pretty close the the epicenter of the Grapes of Wrath part of our history.

Sorry no pictures here, worried about the Tortuga.
