What happens when you want to go one more mile down the road and common sense tells you the Tortuga Truck should not go with you? A 20,000 pound truck just might not be the right vehicle because of its size, weight, or ability to recover if you got in trouble. The answer to get down the road one more mile is the Gelandewagen. A tough, dependable, mechanically simple vehicle that can take you to the most remote trail head. The Gelandewagen will be that extension of the adventure for places yet to explore.
But how do you get the Gelandewagen to the Tortuga Truck base camp? The answer once again was found at Smitty’s Welding and RV…YOU TOW IT! Smitty’s did a magnificent job setting up Gelandewagen for overland adventure. Custom crafted bracket mount for the tow bar and the wiring harness all tied together with a Blue OX tow bar.
Both the Tortuga Truck and the Gelandewagen started life as military trucks and that means 24 V electrical systems. That posed no problems for the professionals at Smitty’s. In fact their attention to detail is impressive. Not wanting to put any holes in the body of the Gelandewagen, Smitty’s came up with a special design for the trail lights for the Gelandewagen. A custom light bar was mounted in the military hitch. What makes this cool is that after being towed to the base camp, it only takes loosening one screw and pulling a pin and the light bar is left at base camp not to be damaged by the next mile.
