Best Laid Plans, Cypremort Point State Park, Louisiana
The turnaround point would be New Orleans but there was no rush. The path to the French Quarter would be along the coast line, away from the Interstate where most had nowhere to go and wanted to do it at 80 plus MPHs. The coast road prove to be the right choice. Rural Louisiana, where only the locals travel. Narrow and aging roads that would bounce the Tortuga Truck to the point bathroom breaks were frequent. The path wondering through marshes and coast line, small towns that have seen the ravage of repeated coastal storms seldom seen nor apricated by those on the Interstate, but a spot of camping opportunity on the beach was the goal before hitting the wall of humanity in NOLA.
Cypremort Point, a state park would do the trick. Some 15 miles off the Tortuga’s route to New Orleans, it would be an easy in and out for the night. The Tortuga found another beautiful area, Cypress swamps, bridges crossing over rivers and channels and vacation homes on the coast. While enjoying the view the Tortuga approached the Cypremort Point, off of a small marina on a gravel road the entrance appeared with the Gulf of Mexico as a back drop. There was no one at the gate to ask questions, and there was no fee information to park the Tortuga Truck for the night, wait, was there a place to park the Tortuga for the night? To develop the situation further a drive through the park was in order. Fishing piers, Picnic tables, bungalows available to rent, sandy beaches with a view of families enjoying the winter sun, but no place for the Tortuga Truck for the night. What a great day park, but the Tortuga needed a place for the night, for back to once we came. The Tortuga was losing the day, as we returned back to the original Tortuga route to New Orleans and RV park appeared, time to rest. Under the trees surrounded by mud, the sounds of the interstate lulled the Tortuga to sleep.
